At Howard City, Michigan, Helen Beebe is an important member of her community.
Being born in 1921, she remains an engaged member of society. Everyone who comes to see and work at the city’s social center admires her.
She loved the potluck birthday celebration that the center organized in honor of her 101st milestone.
Helen stated that despite being 101 years old, she continues to do everything by herself and even finds time and stamina to cook frequently.
Her weekly schedule also includes Friday trips to the social center and Wednesday trips to the market.
She declares that her active lifestyle is the key to keeping her mind and body in good shape all these years.
She firmly believes that staying busy and active will help her stay intellectually and physically sharp.
She mentioned that her parents, who always kept their children busy and engaged in various activities, instilled the habit of moving and staying active in her and her siblings.
“My parents took us everywhere and kept us busy doing things,” she recalled, adding, “That’s what I think life is about.”
She also loves dancing. While she used to enjoy dancing the polka, her advanced age prevents her from participating now.
Nevertheless, she still dances to slow music.
