Juanita Fitzgerald, a 93-year-old elderly woman, was evicted from the Franklin House nursing home in Eustis, Florida. The woman spent two nights in jail because the nursing home accused her of not paying her rent…
According to The Orlando Sentinel, authorities released an elderly woman who had been arrested by the police, suspected of refusing to pay rent for an apartment for senior citizens where she had been living since 2011.
Thus, Juanita spent her 94th birthday in a motel room.
The Franklin House in Eustis filed a lawsuit against the elderly woman who refused to vacate the premises.
The police stated that the reason for this brutal arrest, which left a visible bruise on the resident’s arm, was the delay in her rent payment, in the amount of $161.
Thus, she was no longer welcome in a place that had been her home for eight years, all because of $161.
Fortunately, the Mid-Florida Homeless Coalition took care of Juanita. The woman was released on a $500 bail. She had the opportunity to celebrate her birthday in a nearby motel until she was allowed to leave.
The organization wants to ensure that the elderly woman does not end up on the streets after her release from prison. They are in constant contact with her to resolve the housing issues.
The old lady stopped paying the rent because she thought she was nearing the end of her life.
Now, a local resident in Florida is caring for Juanita. She is receiving the assistance she needs. A GoFundMe page has been launched to help her take care of her apartment.
